About
Lauren Redhead has had recent performances by the Nieuw Ensemble at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (the empiricist view – large ensemble), Trio Labyrinth (as a name i am a myth - bass clarinet, violin, harpsichord, public address loudspeaker) and Edges Ensemble ( in the back there was a pigeon (c) - open instrumentation). She has also received numerous performances at the University of Leeds, the most recent of these for the newly formed Film Music Orchestra as part of the recent film music conference, in association with the 23rd Leeds International Film Festival (love speed and thrills – chamber orchestra, black and white film, tape). She has also received performances as part of the Leeds University Contemporary Music Festival, in collaboration with the student project LSTwo, and in August 2008 the premier of a 30 minute installation Пepecтpoйка for percussion, electronics and projection, developed with percussionist Kate Whitaker.
She is currently seeking a performance opportunity for the opera Fermata: stop temporarily, and remain, as if unwilling to leave, and looking forward to writing a second opera (Green Angel) in collaboration with writer and theatre director Adam Strickson, for performance initially at New Stages Theatre Festival in 2010 and in full production in 2011.
When she is not working as a composer, Lauren is an organist, a performer with the quasi-spontaneous ensemble projectisle, and a keen supporter of new music. She is currently undertaking an AHRC funded practice-led PhD at the University of Leeds with Prof. Derek Scott and Dr Martin Iddon.
