About
I currently co-ordinate the composition modules in the School of Music at the University of Leeds. My interests lie in areas of different notation types, improvisation, semiotics, aesthetics and philosophy of new music and micro-tonal tuning systems. I have supervised 1 PhD student to completion and co-supervised 2 others to completion; I currently have 10 PhD students, one of whom is parented in the School of Fine Art. I also co-ordinate LSTwo the student new music ensemble, teach on all composition modules between level 2 and Masters level, co-ordinate and deliver the level 3 aesthetics of new music module.
My work has been performed nationally and internationally, in London (as part of BMIC's Cutting Edge Festival), Huddersfield (Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival), Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Frieburg im Breisgau, Stuttgart, Reims, Vancouver, New Jersey, Darmstadt (Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik) and Poland. Performers of my work include: BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, [rout], Ian Pace, Richard Casey, Ensemble SurPlus, Aleksander Szram, Christophe de Bezenac, Freelance Brass and Apartment House.
